Mind's Eye
Mind's Eye
From the shoulders of giants
A keen mind of science
Can look to the Distant Beyond,
But to look deep within
At what is, and has been...
The Wise - with haste - must abscond
With all that is left,
Lest it soon turn bereft
Of that which the Fool of Love seeks;
For when the heart falls,
It constructs thickened walls
Behind which, to silence, it speaks.
Be gone, ye damn thoughts!
Unturn stomach from knots!
This guilt! I can take it no more!
Let me be free!
Let me rise to my knees!
The things I have done, I abhor!
"By mind, I am broken"
Are truer words spoken?
Can one hope to retrain the mind
To think not of things
The Unrefined brings?
Or will it be always unkind?
From the ankles of angels
The faithful will dangle
As vast silken wings carry high
The ones who pass on
Who refused to be drawn
Into fire, where once-good men die.
